Ok, if you don’t know the full story allow me to back up a few paces…
Lindsey Buckingham was fired from Fleetwood Mac, so they are replacing him with Mike Campbell of The Heartbreakers & the homeless looking guy from Crowded House for their next tour.
So Lindsey got back at them, in his own way of saying “screw you”, – he announced a solo tour that starts 4 days after Fleetwood’s kicks off.
Now, let me just clarify that I am a huge Fleetwood Mac fan. However, firing Lindsey isn’t cool.
It just makes them look stupid to be honest. Lindsey Buckingham kinda really makes the band, and shapes their sound. He played the lead guitar for all their legendary solos, he wrote pretty much all of their hit songs, and to top it off he sang a lot of them too.
While I love Mike Campbell, that doesn’t mean he should play for Fleetwood Mac. While it’s cool to see some of my favorite artists collaborate, it’s clear Mike doesn’t fit in as good as Lindsey. And the guy from Crowded House has talent too, but he sings like himself. Not like Lindsey. So that really doesn’t make any sense. Nobody can sing like Lindsey. It’s HIS voice!
I would definitely much rather go see Lindsey solo rather than Fleetwood Mac. Because Fleetwood Mac without Lindsey isn’t Fleetwood Mac. It’s a completely different sound.
This choice Fleetwood made has really ticked me off, and I’m kinda upset with Campbell to be honest.
I mean, I understand Mike Campbell misses playing music – who wouldn’t? But I’m just shocked he didn’t see anything wrong with what Fleetwood was doing.
I have no idea why they’d do this to Lindsey, but if I’m being honest I think it might have to do with Lindsey Buckingham’s past relationship with co-lead vocalist Stevie Nicks.
Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham dated for years, and were pretty serious too. After taking the fall out from such a serious relationship, it was always awkward when they were together.
I guess it made Mick Fleetwood and everybody else uncomfortable to see them like this too. So I guess Mick and the gang flipped a coin on who to kick out, and the band decided to vote Lindsey out.
Who knows? I know it’s crazy, but I’m at a loss at this point.
Despite Fleetwood’s terrible decision, I still love their music. But I definitely stand by boycotting their tour, and instead I will buy tickets to Lindsey’s wearing my very own “Boycott Fleetwood Mac’s Tour” T-shirt. Ok, I mean that as a joke expressing my feelings. I don’t have the money to make my own T-shirt. However, that’s gonna be my attitude. Besides, Lindsey has made his mark in this world and made the rightful millions of dollars he deserves any ways. Probably doesn’t bother him too much.
